WhatsApp Adds a New Feature to Group Video Chat

May 15, 2020

WhatsApp is introducing a new feature that will allow more than four people to join group audio and video calls. With this latest feature, the instant messaging app has said that members will be able to make a group call or video call for groups using a dedicated button. Previously, in order to start a group voice or video call, users were required to start a one-on-one call and add more participants from the “add participant” button in the top right corner. However, there’s a catch. This one-step process will only be available to groups that have four members or less. You cannot have more than four members on a call. The new feature will work on both Android and iOS versions of the app. The user will have to go to his group chat then he needs to tap the video or voice call icon to directly start a call with everyone in the chat.

It could be WhatsApp responding to the growth of video meeting apps as people work from their homes or are working away from homes during the coronavirus crisis pandemic. But it will surely make people feel closer to their loved ones in this crisis.
