How Brands Around the Globe Commemorate Earth Day 2019

Aug 16, 2019

22nd April saw Earth Day, the day dedicated to honoring our planet and pushing for people to take better care of it. Brands also commemorate Earth Day with campaigns, activations, new initiatives, heartwarming ads, and other stunts. Below are a few of the most notable Earth Day creations from brands:

01. Adidas

Adidas recently launched the Futurecraft.Loop sneaker designed to have a circular life cycle. The best part about these shoes is that they can be recycled! Once, the shoes are ready to be thrown out, wearers can send them back to the brand, which will grind them down and repurpose them to create a new pair of sneakers.

02. The North Face

On Earth day, the brand decided to take a big stand and launched a global effort to get Earth Day labeled as a national holiday and even started a Change.org petition to achieve that goal. The brand has also partner with influential figures like model Gabrielle Richardson and singer and songwriter Ella Mai to host earth exploration-themed activations across New York City.

03. Google

On the search page, Google had an Earth Day 2019 doodle. When a user tapped on the doodle, the animation leads to us doodles of a series of animations that introduced us to different birds and animals that are unique like a 'Wandering Albatross', that has the widest wingspan in the world, or 'Coastal Redwood' tree, which is the tallest tree in the world at 377 feet. While the doodles provide special briefs on each of these organisms, if any of these species get a user’s attention, he can simply click on the that particular Doodle slide and Google will direct him to additional information.

04. Nike

Nike is teaming with artist Steven Harrington for a capsule collection meant to inspire a love for the planet. The collection includes styles like the Air Force 1, Blazer and Cortez, which all use Nike Flyleather, a proprietary sustainable material that contains 50 percent recycled leather. Prices range from $80 to $100.

05. Kingston Technology

Kingston launched #EarthEditionDrive that imagines Earth as a USB Flash Drive. The limited edition 64GB USB Drive flashes a ‘The Earth filling up with junk’ message trying to educate and drive people to take action. Driving home the point that we are running out of space— a disturbing parallel with real life— this flash drive is completely full! Opening the drive shows rows upon rows of junk that showcases the impact of pollution, and Earth Edition forces you to ‘clean up’ Earth in order to use it, subtly telling you to do the same in real life for the planet Earth.
